Students in Mrs. Henry, Ms. Diebold, Ms. Miller, and Mr. Hodgdon’s classes had a Skype session this morning with Mr. Bobby Wilson, founder and CEO of Metro Atlanta Urban Farm (MAUF). The students are involved in a comprehensive, year-long STEM enrichment project that focuses on the role of small-scale farming such as community gardens, kitchen gardens, and other models in helping to address the global issue of food insecurity. Mr. Wilson shared the story of MAUF, his own agricultural background, suggestions for how to improve the team’s model community garden, and discussed careers in agriculture that went beyond growing. Mr. Wilson then took some questions from students. Mr. Wilson has agreed to serve as a teaching partner to our students as they learn about small-scale agriculture. One of the most important concepts that Mr. Wilson expressed was that community gardens are about far more than just growing: they are about bringing people together. #WildcatScience #WildcatSTEM #WildcatsSkype #WeAreRHMS
