Mr. Moore's Robotics Class

Mr. Moore’s robotic class all started with a grant, called Project Lead the Way. While asking Mr. Moore, the robotics teacher, about his class he told us some of his top students. We interviewed them and here is what they had to say: “What is robotics trying to achieve? Robotics is trying to get people to think about things mechanically because everyday things are becoming more and more automated. Mr. Moore wants his students to be able to use things mechanically because one day it might be our jobs.” Another question asked was “what are you doing to achieve this goal? The students in robotics are using a series of different mechanical devices, to find out how they work and operate.” The last question: “What materials are they using to achieve this goal? The students in the robotics class use VEX robotic kits which include different gears, motors, and electronics.” Mr. Moore described to us why he teaches the robotics class. Today, the world is becoming less self-dependent and more dependent on automation. Therefore, Mr. Moore wants his students to be self-dependent when it comes to mechanical tasks. Mr. Moore believes that students are smart enough to learn from his class and use this information in the real world. One of his previous students, Mikkel Welch, was celebrated for his third place award in Robotics. He competed with students from all around the state in the Georgia State Technology Competition in Macon on March 10, 2018.  He designed a Lego organizer, which used infrared to move the Legos and the frequency of the air to determine the color of Lego. In the event the participants were not allowed to have, a remote and the project needed to complete a purpose. Mikkel was judged on the looks of his project and what it did performance wise.   #WeAreRHMS
